Marty is senior counsel at Klein Law. He holds an LL.B. from the University of Ottawa Law School (1982). Although he has restricted his practice to Family Law, throughout the years, he has also had a great deal of involvement in private adoptions, real estate, wills and powers of attorney. His Family Law involvement has included Children's Lawyer work, child support enforcement, child protection advocacy, mediation, including attendances in all levels of Courts in Ontario.
With his appointment, in 2004, as a Deputy Judge in the Small Claims Court, Marty has come to appreciate that being a Judge is more than just a “vocation.” He firmly believes that being a Judge has a “calling,” placed upon it, in upholding the law and in seeing that justice is done.
Marty has also been a Licensee to place children for adoption in Ontario since 1987. He is a member of the Toronto Area Committee of Legal Aid Ontario, Family Lawyers Association and Peel Law Association. He is the past chair of the Operations Committee, Toronto Family Court and taught for many years at the Bar Admission Course.
Marty has a keen passion in mentoring new lawyers and in the area of "civility." How these two are integrated is his desire to see “quality” lawyers in the profession and their being "civil" to one another; something which is lacking in the legal profession. It's Marty's hope that throughout the years, he has been a good role model of practicing with integrity, to the lawyers in this firm and his colleagues throughout the Greater Toronto Area.
Marty has received intense training in alternate dispute resolution, including mediation, arbitration and collaborative law. Marty realizes the tremendous value in "interest based," "no-court resolution" to disputes. Marty is a member of ADR Institute of Ontario and the Collaborative Family Law Group of Halton & Peel.
