Have you ever thought about what will happen to your assets after you
die? How can you make sure that the assets you have accumulated during
your lifetime are distributed according to your wishes? Among
other things,
who will provide for your dependents if they are under 18?
At Klein Law it's our belief that it's a wise decision to have a will. If you don't make a will or use some other legal method to transfer your property when you die, provincial law will determine what happens to your property. This process is called intestate succession. Your property will be distributed to your spouse and children or, if you don't have either, to other relatives according to provincial laws.
If no relatives can be found to inherit your property, it could go to the province in which you reside. If you have minor children and die without a will, a court will determine who will care for them and their property if their other parent is unavailable or unfit.
Below we provide information for clients who may be considering a Will or updating their current Will.
